The article highlights that this is the result of the efforts of all workers of the health sector and the political will of the State, which paid special attention to pregnant women and children under one year. Granma reports that Public Health Minister Jose Ramon Balaguer congratulated all professionals, technicians and support workers linked to the National Program of Health Attention to Mothers and Children. The congratulation also includes workers from other sectors that contributed to this result.

Cuba concluded 2009 with an infant mortality rate of 4,8 deaths per every one thousand live births – similar to the all-time lowest of 4,7 attained in 2008 – in spite of the current Influenza A H1N1 pandemic.
