Mari Machado told reporters in Havana that a total of 8,862 candidates have been chosen thus far. The official explained that assemblies that were rained out have been re-scheduled to be held before March 24, when this nomination phase concludes. Nearly eight million Cuban citizens will participate in the national partial elections on April 25 to elect members of local governments. The second round of the vote will take place a week later.
