The Argentinean Committee for the Release of the Five has sent a letter to the US ambassador in that nation, Vilma Martinez, in which they request humanitarian entry visas for Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez so they can visit their husbands in US prisons. They’re the wives of René Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez, respectively, who, like Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, have been unjustly incarcerated in the United States for 11 years now. The Five, as they’re known internationally, were accused of being terrorists and given harsh sentences for monitoring Miami-based ultra-right groups that have carried out acts of sabotage, assassination attempts and bacteriological attacks for decades, which have resulted in the death of thousands of Cubans. On the other hand, Cuba’s General Consul in Costa Rica, Antonio Pardo, spoke about the case of these patriots during a meeting held at the theater of that Central American country's Health Workers' Trade Union. New commitments to spread the situation of these Cuban patriots were made. Meanwhile, in Zimbabwe, a meeting attended by Cuban voluntary workers in that nation and members of solidarity-with-Cuba groups was held, during which a declaration in favor of the release of The Five from prison was read. Similar meetings took place in Kiribati, in the Pacific Ocean, and in Sri Lanka, in the Indian Ocean, the latter organized by women from left-wing parties. Gerardo, Ramon, Antonio, Fernando and Rene sent a message –published by the CubaDebate web site- to Cuban women on the occasion of International Women's Day, in which they express that they're their inspiration and strength.

Solidarity with the five Cuban heroes and their relatives has intensified over the last few days. The Cuban Foreign Ministry's web site reports on activities in this regard in Argentina, Costa Rica, Zimbabwe, Kiribati and Sri Lanka.
