Spanish Alexei Shirov kept his great performance after winning three games in a row at the Corus Chess Tournament 2010 in Wijk ann Zee in which there are other 13 competitors.
Shirov defeated local Sergei Tiviakov with 31 moves of a closed Sicilian Defence. Norwegian Magnus Carlsen defeated local Loek Van Nelly with the same result and US Hikaru Nakamura defeated British Nigel Short. Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk defeated host Jan Smeets.

The rest of the matches ended tied:

Fabiano Caruana (Italy) vs. Kramnik (Russsia), Leinier Dominguez Perez (Cuba) vs. Viswanathan Anand (India) and Peter Leko (Hungary) vs. Sergey Karjakin (Ukraine).

Three days into the tournament, the Corus pole position shows Shirov with 3 points, Carlsen, Hikaru 2.5; Ivanchuk 2; Leinier, Anand, Kramnik 1.5; Tiviakov, Caruana, Leko, Van Nelly 1; and Smeets and Short 0.5.
