European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid Karel De Gucht, today paid homage to Cuba’s National Hero, Jose Marti, at the Memorial in the Revolution Square.

The European official accompanied by Cuba’s deputy foreign minister Dagoberto Rodriguez, laid a wreath at the monument raised to honor the Cuban hero and toured the historic exhibit at the memorial named after Jose Marti.

The exhibit encompasses photographic documents, engravings, drawings, facsimiles of historical documents (both printed and hand-written), first editions of Marti’s works and reproductions of significant paraphernalia related to the life of the Cuban National Hero.

The European commissioner is paying a visit to Havana at the invitation of Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, with whom he is scheduled to hold talks.
